Join 500-1,000 leadership marchers for a reflective 2-mile silent march to Sacramento City College. This optional early start honors the 381-day Montgomery Bus Boycott.

March for the Dream Begins

πŸ“ Sacramento City College - 3835 Freeport Blvd

This is the main march starting point for most participants!

25,000 marchers gather for opening ceremony, speakers, and Courageous Conversations. March arm-in-arm with someone different and practice empathy across difference.

8:30 AM - 11:30 AM

March to Downtown

πŸ“ 6-mile march route through Sacramento

Walk together through Sacramento's streets celebrating Dr. King's legacy. Community musicians and performers at designated stops. Arrive at the Convention Center around 11:30 AM.

Celebrate the marchers' arrival! Community choir, speakers, and welcome program launching Journey to Justice - our new year-round platform for community action.

Event Ends + Return Shuttles

Regional Transit (RT) shuttles available to take participants back to Sacramento City College and Oak Park Community Center starting points.

Check with RT staff at the Convention Center for shuttle departure times and locations.

Three Ways to Participate

πŸƒ The Full Journey (8 miles)

For the committed: Start at Oak Park at 8:00 AM for the Extra Mile program, then march to Sac City College, then to the Convention Center. Total: 8 miles of inspiration and community.

🚢 The Classic March (6 miles)

Most popular option: Join 25,000 marchers at Sacramento City College at 8:30 AM. March 6 miles to the Convention Center, enjoy the Expo, take RT shuttle back.

πŸŽͺ Expo Only

Can't march? Come directly to the Convention Center anytime between 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM. Enjoy the Expo, welcome the marchers when they arrive at 11:30 AM!

What to Bring

βœ… Recommended Items:

  • Comfortable walking shoes (essential for marchers!)
  • Water bottle (stay hydrated on the march)
  • Snacks (6-mile march takes 2-3 hours)
  • Weather-appropriate clothing (layers recommended for January)
  • Sunscreen and hat (even in January!)
  • Phone/camera (capture memories)
  • Cash for Food Court (though some vendors may accept cards)
  • Resume (if interested in job opportunities at Expo)

Starting Points:

Oak Park Community Center (Extra Mile - 8:00 AM):
3425 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Sacramento, CA 95817
Parking available at the community center and surrounding streets.

Sacramento City College (Main March - 8:30 AM):
3835 Freeport Boulevard, Sacramento, CA 95822
Parking available on campus. Arrive early for best spots!

SAFE Credit Union Convention Center (Expo Only - 10:00 AM):
1400 J Street, Sacramento, CA 95814
Downtown parking garages and lots available. RT light rail and bus service recommended.

🚌 Public Transportation:

Regional Transit (RT) provides excellent service to all event locations. Light rail and bus routes serve Sacramento City College and downtown. RT will provide FREE shuttle service from the Convention Center back to starting points at the end of the event.
